Seascape in Acrylic

On my colour day this week I couldn't come up with an ad lib idea. I decided to try one of the seascapes in my SAA book. It was the last project in the book and I hadn't actually tried anything in the book in acrylic yet. I have done the first project in pastel and then copied the end result in coloured pencil, so I reasoned I could give it a go.

After my acrylic coursework day on Monday and the YouTube video I watched I decided to be a little ruthless with my paints and any that came out lumpy or separated went into the bin. Working with lumpy paints was not going to progress my painting. In fact it is more likely to knock my confidence!

I spent today putting the wash for the sky on, then I walked the dog while it dried and followed up by adding the clouds (lots of fun using a spray bottle) and adding the sand. The sand was added by putting blobs of paint straight onto the canvas and then blending in streaks. This was pretty nerve wrecking. It took me two attempts to get it close to how it should look. I don't have the range of colours suggested in the book
