Monochrome to Multichrome

I really wasn't feeling it on Thursday, but I knew I had to do something. I have a white sketch on black paper that only took up a third of the page. The plan had been to repeat it two more times, but I had not got around to it. I have a distaste of repeating the same work over and over again. I know this is silly and I'm missing a really good learning tool. As I looked at the rest of the page I decided to fill it with an alternative sketch in repose. I managed to do this while also entertaining my children who were off on half term, and watching Netflix. LOL

Sometimes too much distraction is a bad thing. Sometimes I think it stops us over working or overthinking a piece. It seemed to work for me this time.

The previous evening I had looked up pictures on Google that I could attempt to do in acrylic. One piece of advise I have seen on the internet is to work on much smaller canvases if you are feeling overwhelmed. So I quartered my acrylic block and worked on that. While it does make adding detail difficult, but the smaller space and less paint does make it feel less intimidating.

I used one of my books to help with technique and colour ideas but quickly found my own rhythm. As a final piece done without support I'm pleased with it. The foam needs a warm wash to bring it in line with the clouds, but I'm not stressing it. I also loved working on this size. It is really good for practising on and it will allow me to try a number of pictures without feeling I'm wasting materials.
